Sathyabama College of Physiotherapy, was established in 2022, by Chancellor Dr. Mariazeena Johnson with the aim of  producing future Physiotherapists of our country with a service to society and broad scientific knowledge required for Physiotherapists. The school of Physiotherapy offers undergraduate course with a duration of four and a half years. We aim at up-to-date physiotherapy education which could correspond to requirements & changes in the times. The school is attached to the general hospital is situated in the Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology. Physiotherapy School has well-qualified, skillful professional teaching faculties with a doctorate or post-graduation degrees. School of Physiotherapy motivates and encourages the faculty and students to actively participate in research activities.

B.P.T - Bachelor of Physiotherapy

Physical therapists are knowledgeable about how the human body functions and how to help patients improve their quality of life. A physical therapist's skill set applies to a lot of different areas and can be a great foundation for other exciting careers. Sathyabama school of Physiotherapy  offers training in Physiotherapy at the undergraduate level. The Institution is been approved by Government of Tamil Nadu,  College started its first batch in the academic year 2022-23. Sathyabama School of Physiotherapy has one dream  improving the patient health through education  and research. The innovative teaching and hands-on practise and skill based training,  the students evolve as trained  graduates who are prepared to meet the challenges of  health care industry. Students will also benefit from training in different field in health care industry and community based health services  to provide service to the mankind.

Program Outcome (PO's)

Upon completion of graduate program in physiotherapy, the student should:

PO1: Acquire adequate knowledge of the basic medical subjects in the practice of Physiotherapy including areas such as Anatomy, Physiology, Orthopedics, Neurology, Cardiac & Respiratory conditions, OBG, sports injuries, and Preventative health care.


PO2:     Develop skills to prescribe and administer exercises, electrotherapeutic modalities, and advanced Physiotherapeutic techniques for the management of various medical and surgical conditions, with a view to deliver a holistic approach.

PO3:     To develop significant communication skills to educate the patients about their right for proper health care delivery system.

PO4:  Demonstrate skill in teaching, management, research, guidance and counseling that will support lifelong learning in personal and professional development.

PO5: To practice moral and ethical values and apply knowledge and skills to improve the health and well-being of patients & serve the community.
 

Program Specific Outcomes (PSO's)

PSO1: To apply the acquired fundamental knowledge in the Assessment, Diagnosis and Treatment of the patients. 

PSO2: To analyze and evaluate the Physiotherapeutic approaches, Advance techniques for the Rehabilitation and benefit to the Patients

PSO3: To develop the Exercise protocols, interventions for the clinical conditions which can  meet the challenges and overcome the limitations of the condition.

Laboratories

Physiotherapy OPD:
 The Out Patient department at Sathyabama college of Physiotherapy has been set up with high tech electrotherapy modalities and exercise therapy equipment’s like LAZER, EMG- Biofeedback, short wave diathermy, Interferential therapy, wax therapy, Traction unit, Continuous passive movement machine, Treadmill, cycle ergometer, LAZER, EMG- Biofeedback, Gait training unit, multi-exercise chair, dumbbells, Physio ball. This is to promote and delivery high quality services to the patients visiting the department.

2.PHYSIO ELECTROTHERAPY LAB:
The Laboratory has latest electrotherapy modalities like Ultrasound, Interferential therapy, Shortwave diathermy, Electric Stimulation, Wax therapy. The lab is equipped with needed infrastructure for demonstrations during lecture hours and utilized by the students during Practical sessions.

3.EXERCISE THERAPY LAB : 
The Laboratory has latest exercise equipment is as Treadmill, ergometer, Physio ball, dumb bells, wall ladder exerciser, Wall pulley, Quadriceps table, Orthosis like Hip knee ankle foot orthosis, Knee ankle foot orthosis, ankle orthosis, which available for demonstrations during lecture hours and utilized by the students for effective learning.

4.PHYSIOTHERAPY DEPARTMENT LIBRARY:
A small library has been set up in the Laboratory for the students with 100 books related to Physiotherapy for a quick reference. A bone library is also available, where students lend the bones for studying apart from books.

Events

Sathyabama college of Physiotherapy conducted an anatomy workshop titled “Head and Neck” on 12th Jan 2023, organized by Faculty of Physiotherapy, Sathyabama college of Physiotherapy and the resource person was J. Godwin Issac Jeba Selvan, From SRM university. The venue was Anatomy Lab, Sathyabama Dental Sciences. Students actively participated in the workshop. The sessions were focused on the anatomical parts of the head and neck of Cadaver, features, positions, relations, applied anatomy.

Sathyabama college of Physiotherapy conducted an international anatomy webinar titled “PERIPHERAL NERVE ENTRAPMENT AND INJURY IN THE UPPER EXTREMITY” on 6th Feb 2023, organized by Faculty of Physiotherapy, Sathyabama college of Physiotherapy and the resource person was Dr P Murali, Associate Professor. There were 700 student attendees online registered for the webinar.

Sathyabama college of Physiotherapy conducted an online Faculty development program on Patents, Funding, and Publications from 27th – 31st march organized by Mrs.Priya Kumari, faculty of Physiotherapy, Sathyabama college of Physiotherapy. The session was conducted with 5 eminent speakers in their field as Dr Prakash, Associate Professor Ashok & Rita Patel Institute of Physiotherapy, Charotar University of Science and Technology, GUJARAT, Dr. Khadijah Mohideen, Associate Professor, Sathyabama Dental College, Prof. Dr.Prathap Suganthirababu PT( Neuro) PhD Vice Principal & Research Coordinator Saveetha College of Physiotherapy, Dr. P Senthil Selvam, HOD Vels school of Physiotherapy, Mrs. Ponnambily Chandy, HOD, Research, Sathyabama College of Nursing. The sessions were attended by 75 faculties

World Parkinson’s day awareness program on 11th April was Conducted with 3 speakers as Dr. S. Kannan M.D (Anesthesiology)., Dip In. Diabetology Medical Superintendent, Dr. Parveen Banu R - PSYCHOLOGY M.Sc., Ph.D., HOD Psychology Department, Sathyabama College of Physiotherapy, Dr.A.Kumaresan, MPT(Neuro), D.Pharm, Ph.D. Professor Saveetha College of Physiotherapy from 10:00am to 1:00 pm This online program was organized by, faculty of Physiotherapy, Sathyabama college of Physiotherapy.

The world Yoga Day was observed on 21st  June 2023 program was organized by, faculty of Physiotherapy, Sathyabama college of Physiotherapy. The session was conducted at Physiotherapy department OPD. The resource person was Mrs Shanmugapriya Madeshwaran MA yoga, PGDIP, Yoga. Around 50 participants including students and faculties of Sathyabama college participated in yoga. The speaker highlighted the session with demonstrations and awareness on a healthy life style.

On 21/ 06/23 faculties of Sathyabama college of Physiotherapy conducted a seminar on Cardio pulmonary resuscitation the guest speaker was Mr Dinesh assistant Professor, Sathyabama College of Nursing, demonstrated the process of CPR to the students.

8th September 2023 was observed as the World physiotherapy day. The event was organized by the faculties of Sathyabama college of Physiotherapy at the Dental Auditorium, the event was honored by the presence of Justice Mrs Aruna Jagadeesan, High court Judge (Retd), (one man commission Thoothkudi Police firing incident) who delivered the Inaugural address. Dr. Anima Nanda, FNRS, FAB, FIAS - Dean – IQAC, Dr.Bharathi B, Professor and Dean, Academics, Dr.L.Lakshmi – Nursing RN, RM, M.Sc (Nursing), Ph.D (Nursing) Dean, graced the occasion with their presence. A tree plantation drive to keep the campus green was done a day earlier on 7th September 2023.

Sathyabama college of Physiotherapy organized a guest lecture on 10th October 2023 titled “Integrating digital solutions in Physiotherapy” from 10: 00 am – 12:00 pm at seminar hall 3rd floor Sathyabama college of Physiotherapy. The speakers Mr Arun Kumar Ramasamy, Co- founder of SMART home healthcare solutions and Mrs. Srividhya Kesavan PT, Consultant Physiotherapist for SMART home healthcare solutions we invited for session. 81 Physiotherapy students attended the session.

Sathyabama college of Physiotherapy organized a guest lecture on 3rd November 2023 awareness on rotary club activities from 10: 00 am – 12:00 pm at seminar hall 3rd floor Sathyabama college of Physiotherapy. The speakers Ms. Asha Daniel Charter President of Rotary club Chennai riviera and Rotarian Dr. Kalaichezhian Elanchezian addressed the students. 81 Physiotherapy students who attended the session.
