The Department of Fashion Design was established in the year of 2019. The Department offers three years integrated programme in B.Sc. Fashion Design. The Programme aims towards developing their entrepreneurship skills to face the demands of the Fashion and Apparel Industry. The curriculum has been designed meticulously to equip the students with the knowledge required for pursuing a wide range of careers in designing, production and management. It gives the opportunity and freedom to choose the specialisation of their choice with the help of professional electives and Internships. The courses are blended with practical components to explore experience and gain hands-on skills. The department is equipped with state of art laboratories for Pattern making, Garment Construction, Illustration and CAD. The students are encouraged to participate in Co-Curricular and extra-curricular activities to encourage overall development. The department has a team of dedicated faculty who focus on the continuous development of the students and constantly strive to help them in achieving their professional ambition.
The Department of Fashion Design organized a two-day Handloom and Handicraft Exhibition on September 20th and 21st, 2022. The exhibition aimed to provide a unique opportunity for handloom weavers to promote and sell their authentic creations while fostering awareness among the student community. Additionally, the event served as a platform for students to showcase their handcrafted products and exhibit the meticulously designed garments created by final-year students.

The Department of Fashion Design proudly commemorated National Handloom Day on 7th & 8th August 2023 with the goal of raising awareness about Handloom and Handicraft products among our students. As part of this event, we paid tribute to the Sant Kabir Awardee and national awardees who have been acknowledged for their remarkable perseverance and extraordinary skills in enriching the Kancheepuram Handloom Silk Sari weaving traditions. Additionally, our Handloom silk saris exhibition provided a platform for local artisans to showcase their handloom products, offering them opportunities to promote and sell their exceptional creations."
This celebration not only highlighted the rich heritage of handloom craftsmanship but also provided an opportunity to support and appreciate the remarkable talents within Handloom weavers community.

The visit to Chinna Kanchipuram at Shri Yogi Ram Silks was organized for the III B.Sc Fashion Designing students on July 8, 2023, offering them extensive insights into the art of Kanchipuram silk saree weaving. This experience equipped them with a thorough understanding of various weaving techniques, the importance of genuine materials, and the unique characteristics inherent in these sarees. Such hands-on learning is pivotal for aspiring fashion designers as it molds their skills to preserve and honor the heritage and craftsmanship of traditional textiles.

Our students get hands-on training through a one-month internship program at Garment Industries, Boutique Showrooms and Handloom Weaving Centers.

Students visit to Handloom Exhibition – Kalakshetra, Thiruvanmiyur on 9th September 2023. The expo invites more than 50 stalls from weavers to display the different kinds of hand-woven textiles made of cotton, silk and other materials, Handicrafts and Accessories.

A two-day Fashion Styling and Photography Workshop was organized for third-year B.Sc Fashion Design students on July 21 and July 22, 2022. The workshop emphasized essential photographic concepts for outdoor photo shoots, offering hands-on demonstrations with cameras, studio lighting techniques, and studio settings.

As part of their coursework in fashion styling and photography course, third-year B.Sc Fashion Design Students did a photo shoot focused on the vintage lifestyle of women. During this session, the students actively immersed themselves in the meticulous process of accessorizing, applying makeup, and expertly draping saris in vintage styles, aiming to capture the fashion essence of vintage women authentically.

The Department of Fashion Design organized a three-day "Heartfulness Yoga Awareness" program on March 23rd, 2023 for students and faculty members. Its core aim was to imbue the academic community with awareness and enthusiasm for fitness and yoga.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed by the Department of Fashion Design with the Apparel Made-ups and Home Furnishing Sector Skill Council, Tirupur, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Govt. of India on 04-07-2023. The primary aim of this MOU is to enhance the skill development initiatives across diverse sectors, reinforcing the shared commitment towards enhancing employability and fostering entrepreneurship through imparting essential skills and knowledge.
