About the Chapter
The Institution of Engineers (India) [IEI] is a premier national professional body with a rich legacy of engineering excellence. It provides students with a structured platform to engage in professional activities, research interactions, leadership development, and technological advancement. Through active participation in IEI initiatives, students gain exposure to contemporary engineering trends, sustainable practices, and global standards.
The IEI Students’ Branch at Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai, is recognized as an authorized student chapter under The Institution of Engineers (India), Kolkata. The branch actively promotes the dissemination and advancement of engineering and technological knowledge among student members.
The Student Branch facilitates participation in research and development activities and exposure to modern engineering practices across various disciplines. It focuses on emerging developments, innovative techniques, new products, advanced processes, and other topics of current technological importance.

Agglomeration of IE(I) Student Chapters
The Institution of Engineers (India) (IE(I)) Student Chapter of Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology successfully organized an Agglomeration of IE(I) Student Chapters functioning at the institution on 18th December 2025.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from IE(I) Student members and Faculty Advisors representing various chapters, including the ECE Chapter, CSE Chapter, EEE Chapter, Bio-Technology Chapter, CSE (AI & AIR) Chapter, IT Chapter, Chemical Engineering Chapter, and Aeronautical Engineering Chapter. The agglomeration served as a vibrant platform to foster collaboration, exchange of ideas, and strengthen inter-departmental coordination in promoting technical excellence.
Mr. J. Arul Selvan, Vice President of Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology, graced the momentous occasion with his august presence. In his address, he appreciated the collective efforts of the student chapters in organizing technical events, workshops, seminars, and professional development activities that enhance students’ engineering competencies.

During the ceremony, certificates of recognition were presented to the outgoing Office Bearers in appreciation of their outstanding contributions and active involvement in promoting technical activities under the IE(I) banner. The prestigious Best Student Chapter Rolling Trophy for the academic year 2024–2025 was also awarded, recognizing exemplary performance and consistent dedication towards academic and co-curricular excellence.
The agglomeration marked a significant milestone in strengthening the spirit of professional engagement and leadership among aspiring engineers of the institution
ALL INDIA SEMINAR- AI for Sustainable Agriculture
The Sathyabama IEI Students’ Chapter, in association with The Institution of Engineers (India) – Kancheepuram Local Centre and the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), organized an All India Seminar on “AI for Sustainable Agriculture” on 10th September 2025 at the Auditorium, Department of Architecture.
The programme commenced with an inspiring inaugural session that set the tone for the technical deliberations. The seminar brought together academicians, industry experts, researchers, and aspiring engineers to explore the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence in modern agricultural practices and sustainable development

Mr. C. Sam Alex, Group Product Manager – Product Lifecycle Management, UST Global, Chennai, delivered an engaging and informative session highlighting the pivotal role of Artificial Intelligence in enhancing sustainability and improving agricultural productivity. He emphasized the importance of real-time data analytics, predictive modeling, and AI-driven decision-making systems in supporting efficient resource management and precision farming practices.
The seminar provided participants with a comprehensive understanding of AI-driven innovations in sustainable agriculture. It inspired students and faculty members to explore interdisciplinary research opportunities and develop impactful engineering solutions that contribute to environmental sustainability and global food security.
ALL INDIA SEMINAR- AI in Healthcare
A one-day seminar on Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare was organized on 03rd September 2025 at Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai, by the Institution of Engineers (India), Kancheepuram Local Centre, under the aegis of the National Language Promotion Division, IE(I), in association with Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology.
The seminar highlighted the transformative impact of Artificial Intelligence in modern healthcare, covering areas such as medical imaging, diagnostics, predictive analytics, drug discovery, and patient care. It provided a valuable platform for students, faculty members, and professionals to exchange ideas, discuss challenges, and explore emerging opportunities in AI-driven healthcare technologies. The programme commenced with Thamizh Thai Vazhthu followed by the traditional lamp lighting ceremony. The welcome address was delivered by Dr. L. Lakshmanan, Dean, School of Computing. The seminar theme and objectives were presented by Dr. M. S. Godwin Premi, Programme Coordinator and Professor, Department of CSE. The programme souvenir was released by the dignitaries on the dais.

Dr. S. Karthikeyan, Honorary Secretary, IE(I) Kancheepuram Local Centre, addressed the gathering and emphasized the role of the IE(I) Student Chapter in enhancing students’ technical knowledge and professional skills. The Chief Guest, Dr. Uvaraj, Senior Manager – Information & Cybersecurity, Standard Chartered, Chennai, delivered the inaugural address, highlighting the integration of AI tools in healthcare for accurate diagnosis, cost reduction, and improved patient outcomes.The programme concluded with the felicitation of the Chief Guest and a vote of thanks by the IE(I) Sathyabama Student Chapter members.
