Dr. Parveen Banu R - PSYCHOLOGY

Dr Parveen Banu R, Head joined Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology as Assistant Professor in February 2021. She has completed a Post-graduate degree and Doctorate in Applied Psychology from Pondicherry (Central) University, Pondicherry, India. Her research & teaching areas of interest are Students’ Mental Health, Counselling Theories, Skills and Techniques, Social Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Psychopathology, Psychotherapy, Experimental Psychology, and Research Methodology. She has published research papers in Asian Journal of Psychiatry, Indian Journal of Health and Wellbeing, International Journal of Multidisciplinary Educational Research, Psychology and Education, International Journal of Social Sciences Review and International Journal of Interdisciplinary Research and Innovations. She is an in-charge counsellor at the Student Counselling and Psychological Support centre, Sathyabama Institute of Science & Technology.

  • She has presented papers in many International Conferences such as International Conference on Wellness Education in 2019, International Conference on Production of Child Rights: Issues and Challenges in 2013 and International Conference on Students Mental Health: Issues and Challenges in 2011.
  • She organizes various seminars on different aspects of Psychology to spread awareness about mental health in the student community such as “Suicide Awareness and Prevention”, “World of Women”, Colour Psychology, and “Importance of Life”
  • She was invited as the keynote speaker and delivered lectures on the topics “Parenting, in light to Child abuse”, “Psychological aspects of Cancer patients”, Social Support and Mental Health”, “Behavioural addiction” and “Students’ Mental Health”.
  • She has professional experience at Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) as an intern student.
  • Hands-on Training in Research Methodology and IBM SPSS Software
  • Trained in Educational and Vocational Counseling.
