The ACM-W Sathyabama Student Chapter, established in December 2023, was founded with a shared mission: to support, uplift, and empower women in all aspect of computing technology. What began with a small group of passionate founding members quickly evolved into five core teams, forming a dynamic and collaborative community driven by innovation and inclusivity with the great support of our Honorable Chancellor, esteemed President and energetic Vice Presidents. It encompasses a wide array of programs and services aimed at advancing women in computing, including annual celebrations that gather women from multiple regions to encourage networking and community engagement.

Who We Are?

ACM-W, the Association for Computing Machinery Women in Computing, is a global initiative dedicated to advocating for the full participation and advancement of women in all areas of the computing discipline. As part of this global community, the Sathyabama chapter provides a local platform where women technologists can learn, collaborate, and shine. ACM-W Sathyabama Student Chapter had grown into a vibrant community, hosting diverse events, skill-building sessions, and campus-wide programs that continue to inspire and empower women in computing.

Mission

Our mission is to celebrate, empower, and support women in computing by creating a community where their achievements are recognized, their skills are nurtured, and their voices are heard. We celebrate their successes, open doors to learning and innovation, and provide continuous encouragement, guidance, and opportunities to help every woman grow with confidence in the world of technology.

Our Structure

To ensure seamless functioning and impactful initiatives, the chapter operates through five dedicated core teams:

  • Technical Team – drives coding workshops, tech sessions, and hands-on learning

  • Management Team – coordinates events, operations, and chapter logistics

  • Content Team – crafts compelling stories, announcements, and documentation

  • Media Team – amplifies outreach through social platforms and promotions

  • Design Team – ensures creative visual identity and event branding

Together, these teams form the backbone of ACM-W Sathyabama’s growth and success.

Our Journey

Since its inception, the chapter has consistently worked toward building a supportive, skill-enriching environment for women in computing. The ACM-W Sathyabama Chapter aims to empower women in computing by building an inclusive and supportive environment. We focus on enhancing technical skills through workshops, hands-on sessions, and expert interactions, while also promoting professional growth through leadership, mentorship, and industry exposure. 

By 2025, the chapter had evolved into a vibrant, active, and impactful community, hosting technical workshops, outreach initiatives, leadership programs, and campus-wide events that empower women to explore opportunities in technology with confidence.

Members & Exposure

  • Expanded from 4 founding members to 75+ active members, organized into five specialized teams driving technical, creative, and operational excellence.

  • Gained national-level exposure through participation in the ACM India + ACM-W Summit 2024, as well as various national events, workshops, and hackathons.

  • Contributed significantly to campus activities by serving as speakers, coordinators, organizers, and volunteers across major institutional programs.

  • Developed strong technical proficiency in Python, IoT, AI, Machine Learning, Blockchain, UI/UX Design, Tableau, VS Code, and Cybersecurity, supported by continuous hands-on sessions.

  • Acquired valuable industry insights and mentorship from professionals at Zoho, Wolters Kluwer, and TG CyberLabs, enhancing career readiness and real-world understanding.

  • Cultivated a collaborative ecosystem that fosters leadership, communication, innovation, and continuous upskilling among women in technology.

Event Highlights

SHEROIC week 2025

ACM-W Sathyabama Student Chapter organized Sheroic Week from 6–8 March 2025 to celebrate International Women’s Day and highlight women in technology. The event featured tech-focused competitions, including puzzle challenges and timed problem-solving rounds that tested logic, critical thinking, and teamwork. Workshops and debates on computing topics, from AI to ethics, helped participants refine technical skills and innovative thinking. Sheroic Week promoted collaboration, professional growth, and recognition of women in computing, creating a spirited environment for learning and competition.

An inspiring panel discussion “HER STORY: She Speaks Power” was held on March 06,2025 featuring Dr. P. Uma Maheswari, Chief Executive Officer of TN-RISE Women Startup Council, and SMT. M. Menaka, Scientist (F) and Head of RAMS RESD, IGCAR, Kalpakkam. The session explored the evolving role of women in science, technology, and entrepreneurship, offering valuable insights into leadership, research, and innovation. The guests shared their journeys, challenges, and visions, leaving the audience empowered and enlightened.

HORIZON 2024

HORIZON 2024, a technical, national-level, two-day symposium held on 18–19 July 2024, celebrated technology, creativity, and strategy. Students competed in coding challenges, hackathons, design contests, quizzes, and interactive games, showcasing skills, innovation, and teamwork. The event provided a platform for learning, networking, and fun, inspiring participants to explore and excel in technology.

INNOVISTA 

Innovista, organized by ACM-W Sathyabama from 11–13 September 2025 as part of Techno Summit 2025, showcased student projects and prototypes through interactive stalls. The event included gaming activities, promoting learning, engagement, and fun. Participants enhanced technical, managerial, and communication skills while presenting their innovations. It emphasized leadership, teamwork, creativity, and real-world application, allowing visitors to explore projects and engage with their creators.

Outcomes

  • Built the ACM-W SIST website and launched The Hera Chronicle, marking major milestones in identity and creativity.

  • Enhanced technical skills through hands-on workshops in programming, UI/UX, cybersecurity, design, and emerging technologies.

  • Developed leadership and professional abilities by organizing events, collaborating in teams, and interacting with industry experts.

  • Fostered empowerment by creating a supportive community that encouraged more women to participate, lead, and express themselves.
